The Siebel Institute has played an influential role in the brewing industry for almost 150 years

An institution | For almost 150 years, the Siebel Institute of Technology of Chicago has played an influential role in the brewing industry not only in the US, but on the world stage. Alumni hailing from more than 60 countries can be found in virtually every major brewery around the globe. At the beginning of the year, Christian von der Heide was chosen to serve as the new president and CEO of the venerable brewing school. His curriculum vitae includes experience at breweries and suppliers, all of which are active on an international scale, and also a stint as EBC president. BRAUWELT International spoke with the classically trained brewer and maltster about his new role.

BrewingScience announces personnel changes in its editorial board. The panel serves as a source of inspiration for the further development of the journal BrewingScience, provides support in the search for suitable authors and advises on the selection of the winner of the Ludwig Narziß Award for Brewing Science. So far, it consisted of nine renowned experts from the field of brewing science or related disciplines.

Pavlos Photiades was re-elected President of The Brewers of Europe for a second term at the annual general meeting of the Association in Brussels, which took place on June 6th 2018. Pavlos Photiades commented on his appointment, “I am honoured to continue in this role at such an exciting and challenging time for brewers. I look forward to working with the team on issues affecting our sector at large.”

KHS in Dortmund, Germany, international manufacturer of lines and machines for applications in the beverage filling and packaging industry with over 5,000 employees, belongs to the Salzgitter Group’s high-growth technology business unit. As part of its Strategy 2021 program Salzgitter AG plans to further expand its technology business unit.

Practice-oriented publications | The Master Brewers Association of the Americas (MBAA) was founded in 1887 by the leading brewmasters of both North and South America, most of whom at the time were German immigrants or of German descent. Right from the start, the MBAA served as a platform for the exchange of knowledge of brewery practices.

The tanks and process technology expert announced Lars Roed as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). The 48-year-old will thus account for the company’s worldwide sales and marketing activities. In doing so, Roed can benefit from his decades of inside experience: The mechanical engineer has been working for the company since 1994.

At KU Leuven’s Laboratory of Enzyme, Fermentation and Brewing Technology (EFBT) (Technology Campus Ghent, Belgium), there is an open position for a professor (Junior/Senior) in the field of ‘Analytical biochemistry for malting and brewing and related technologies’.

Florian Schneider is the new Head of Sales EMEA at Ziemann Holvrieka. The 41-year-old Schneider is responsible for the regions Europe, Middle East, Africa and Central Asia at the expert company for tanks and process technology for the brewing, beverage and liquid food industry. “We are pleased that we were able to win such an industry-experienced expert for this responsible position”, emphasized Lars Roed, Managing Director.

The Brewers Association (BA) announced on January 23, 2018 that founder and past president Charlie Papazian will exit the BA on January 23, 2019, marking his 70th birthday and 40 years building the craft brewing community and inspiring brewers and beer lovers around the world.

On December 31, 2017, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Niemeyer, chairman of the Executive Management Board at the manufacturer of filling and packaging systems, is leaving the company at his own request to face new challenges elsewhere. In his years in this post he has sustainably furthered technological product development, made an important contribution to significantly increasing sales and bringing about a number of considerable improvements for both the KHS Group and its customers.The Supervisory Board of KHS GmbH thanks Prof. Niemeyer most sincerely for his committed and successful work in the service of the company and wishes him all the best for the future and continued further success in both his private life and professional career.

Anheuser-Busch InBev (Euronext: ABI) (NYSE: BUD) (MEXBOL: ANB) (JSE: ANH) announced on 13 November 2017 that Michel Doukeris has been appointed Zone President North America and CEO of Anheuser-Busch, effective January 1, 2018. Michel presently serves as Chief Sales Officer of AB InBev. He succeeds João Castro Neves, who decided to step down from the role to pursue other opportunities after a long and distinguished career with AB InBev, and will support Michel during a transitional period.

The University of Nottingham has announced the appointment of Professor David Cook to the AB-InBev Chair in Brewing Science, following the departure of Professor Joanne Hort earlier this year.

The management at RMI Analytics announced on 27 June 2017, that the renowned international grain markets expert, Dr. Klaus-Dieter Schumacher, will, on a part time basis, support the RMI team in production of publications such as the Brewing Raw Material Journal, in future seminars and workshops, on the World Barley Malt and Beer Conference and other future RMI activities.

Helena Nylén is today appointed COO at Spendrups Brewery with overall responsibility for production and distribution of Spendrups’ products. Before joining Spendrups, Helena was Head of Supply chain at the pharmaceutical company Sobi. She succeeds Gunnar Svensson, who is retiring after 27 years at Spendrups.
