Increasing capacity | Aluminium drinks cans are the world’s most widely recycled beverage packaging with an 82 % recycling rate in the UK and 76 % across Europe. Now Ball Corporation, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of recyclable aluminium beverage packaging, is planning to significantly increase its manufacturing capacity, with new facilities in the UK and Russia.
Ambitious climate targets | Statista, one of the leading vendors of market and consumer data, together with the business magazine Capital, examined the ratio between revenue growth and reduction in CO2 emissions at German companies in an independent survey, thus spotlighting the top 100 climate-conscious enterprises in Germany. Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, was ranked 48th – yet another success in the group’s sustainability strategy.
Feel the process | The packaging of products is something that, apart from the beer itself, speaks to the consumers. Packaging is present in all parts of the production process, involves the majority of plant departments, and runs through all stages of the supply chain. Therefore, understanding what our bottles and cans experience, or in human words: what they “feel” in the process, turns out to be crucial to the brewing businesses and – as various real-life cases show – leads to wonderful benefits. Mammoth project | In 2019 one of the most powerful and complex sorting systems in Europe went into operation in Bremen, Germany. With a rated output of 4500 crates per hour and seven sorting streams in an area of around 3000 m2, it was a mammoth project for BMS Maschinenfabrik GmbH from Pfatter, also in Germany.
100% rPET | Sidel’s art designers have created the Nuuk bottle concept, drawing inspiration from the purity of ice and its formations. Produced from clear, 100% recycled PET (rPET), Nuuk is a container designed for high-quality, fjord-sourced premium water brands.
Barrier technology | The Bundesrat (upper house of German parliament) recently voted in favour of extending the mandatory deposit on containers to cover all non-returnable plastic bottles and beverage cans.
Solutions for the glass market | O-I Glass, Inc. Perrysburg, Ohio, USA, and Germany’s Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, signed a strategic collaboration agreement that aims to elevate glass by innovating together and to jointly create solutions for the growing glass market.

This year the labelling machine manufacturer GERNEP introduced two new aggregates for its gluing systems onto the market: The GERNEP self-adhesive label applicator and the 3rd generation cold glue labelling unit.
