Biological Department at the Research Center Weihenstephan under new management
Mr. Hutzler studied at the Center of Life Science in Weihenstephan on the subject of Technology and Biotechnology of Food. After specialization in molecular and microbiological analysis for the brewing and beverage sector, he performed his PhD work in the field of development and optimization of methods for the identification and differentiation of yeasts relevant for beverages. He worked as a scientific assistant at the Department for Technology and Brewery (II), Prof. Dr. E. Geiger, and among other duties was responsible for lectures and practical courses regarding biological control of operations and quality assurance.
The working area of the Biological Department, with its laboratory accredited to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, still comprises, by applying conventional methods, the detection and identification of microorganisms contained in beer, shandies, alcohol-free beverages, including water, minerals and table water, according to respective regulations such as the drinking water ordinance (TrinkwV 2001).
