USA | Boston Beer Company’s stock is back in focus after the brewer reported second quarter 2026 results, which showed lower sales, revenue and earnings. Net revenue declined 3.3 percent over the same quarter last year to USD 568 million. Net income stood at USD 51 million, down from USD 60 million a year ago.

USA | In its financial year 2026 (ended May), the cannabis-to-beverage group Tilray Brands delivered USD 915.5 million in revenue, up 11 percent, and USD 61.1 million in adjusted EBITDA. The firm reported on 28 July that its beverage segment contributed about USD 254 million, thanks to the BrewDog acquisition. Otherwise, full year beverage revenue would have declined over 2025. However, Tilray also reported yet another annual net loss – this time of USD 121.4 million. So the path to self-funded growth is not yet in place.

USA | A Wisconsin brewery, whose owner in January promised to give away free beer if “he” dies, was set to lose its alcohol permit on 4 August. Minocqua Brewing Company is owned by the controversial “progressive activist” Kirk Bangstad. The action is not related to his tasteless or even inflammatory promise, though. It follows a June raid in which Wisconsin officials seized canned beer from Mr Bangstad's premises, alleging it had been transported into Wisconsin from Illinois without the required permits and taxes. At the last minute, Mr Bangstad appealed the decision and can therefore continue to operate while undergoing the legal appeal process.

USA | In another escalation in the trade war between the US and Canada, President Donald Trump announced a new 50 percent tariff on Canadian exports which includes Canadian whisky, going into effect on 19 August. Any hopes of Canada returning American alcohol that it banned last year to liquor store shelves have been dashed.

USA | The Coca-Cola Company resumed production of its Fairlife milk dairy beverages after a cyberattack forced it to halt operations at four US plants nearly two weeks previously. The company said in a statement on 27 July that it has made “significant progress” in restoring service at the facilities and has “resumed the majority of production”.

Costa Rica | Remember Fiji water, allegedly the world’s finest water, sourced from an aquifer in Fiji, which has annual revenues of an estimated USD 300 million? Looks like Heineken hopes to replicate its success.

Canada | A buyer has emerged for the former Crown Royal bottling plant in Amherstburg, Ontario, several months after Diageo shuttered the facility and eliminated more than 200 jobs. Diageo confirmed (7 July) it signed a purchase and sale agreement for the property, although the company declined to identify the buyer or disclose financial terms.

Canada | Ontario's government-run liquor store chain LCBO reports that it is selling more Canadian alcohol than ever, 15 months after the province removed American spirits, wines and beers from its shelves in protest of the Trump administration’s tariffs.

USA | Most brewers will be serving a special patriotic beer to celebrate America’s upcoming 250th birthday. But the New York Public Library (NYPL) aims one higher: To commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence it teamed up with local Talea beer company to produce a special edition “Liberty Lager”, inspired by George Washington’s own original recipe for “Small Beer”.
