Further support for the BrewingScience reviewer panel
Nuremberg | The international panel of reviewers for the journal BrewingScience is delighted to have received additional support in various areas from Dr Adrian Forster, Fürsteneck, and Prof. Volker Müller-Schollenberger, HSWT, Weihenstephan, Germany, as well as from Prof. Brian Gibson, TU Dublin, Ireland.
Dr. Adrian Forster is a recognised expert in hops. He studied brewing at the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan and subsequently obtained his doctorate under Prof. Ludwig Narziß. For over three decades, Adrian worked at one of the leading hop extraction and hop pellet plants in the Hallertau region, initially as a laboratory manager and later as a plant manager, with responsibility for research and development. Since retiring from active professional life, he has been working as a consultant on matters relating to hops and their use in beer. He has published numerous articles on hop-related topics and, together with colleagues, has received the Ludwig Narziß-Award for Brewing Science on several occasions.
Prof. Volker Müller-Schollenberger teaches quality assurance, microbiology and sensory analysis on the Brewing and Beverage Technology course at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences. Volker is a member of the Medicinal Waters Committee of the Association of German Mineral Springs, the DLG Committee on Non-Alcoholic Beverages, and a working group on mineral water microbiology at the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety. Having gained practical experience in the mineral water industry, he places particular importance on ensuring that his teaching content is relevant to real-world applications. As a pharmacist and a qualified expert under the German Medicines Act, medicinal waters are also particularly close to his heart.
Prof. Brian Gibson’s teaching and research focus is on brewing technology, the fermentation of food and beverages, microbial physiology, genetics and microbial ecology. After completing his degree and PhD at University College Dublin, Brian carried out post-doctoral research at Oxford Brookes University and the University of Nottingham, UK. After this, he worked for eleven years as a principal scientist at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in Espoo, before moving to TU Berlin in 2020 as Head of the Chair of Brewing and Beverage Technology. Since 2026, he has been teaching Brewing and Distilling at the School of Food Science and Environmental Health at Technological University Dublin, Ireland.
