Diageo launches GoT-inspired White Walker scotch
First, you got Game of Thrones beer (by Ommegang brewery). Then you got Game of Thrones wine. Now, spirits company Diageo and HBO have partnered on a new scotch dedicated to the humanoid creatures.
The spirit, dubbed White Walker by Johnnie Walker, is “inspired by the most enigmatic and feared characters in the show,” Diageo said in early October when launching the tipple.
According to Diageo, “at the heart of this new, innovative blend are single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish – one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries, where whiskies have endured long Scottish winters, not dissimilar to the climate north of the wall.”
In a novel twist, Diageo wants you to serve the scotch chilled, that is straight from the freezer. Only then will you be able to see a special design element. The label’s ink will glow.
In the US, the 41.7 percent ABV scotch is available for a limited time with a suggested retail price of USD 36 per bottle – and “Thrones” viewers will soon be given even more opportunities to pay tribute to the show.
In November, Diageo will follow its White Walker scotch with a series of single malt scotches dedicated to the House Baratheon, House Greyjoy, House Lannister, House Targaryen, House Tully, House Tyrell, House Stark and the Night’s Watch.
These limited-edition whiskies will range from 40 percent to 51.2 percent ABV and suggested prices go from USD 29.99 to USD 64.99 per bottle, according to Diageo.
