Alfa Laval builds global Brewery business and competence center in Copenhagen

Alfa Laval, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of specialized process equipment, is building a global Brewery Business and Competence Centre at the company’s Soborg office near Copenhagen, Denmark. The existing brewery group already residing in Soborg, Scandi Brew® will be expanded with more brewery specialists and the centre will then have the expertise to cover the complete brewing process. This will be accomplished through new recruitments as well as consolidation of functions from the present Brussels office.

The Alfa Laval brewery business and competence centre has previously been divided into two locations: Brussels, Belgium, and Soborg, Denmark. In order to meet future demands from customers, Alfa Laval’s brewery expertise will now be gathered at a single location. The brewery group in Soborg is currently the competence centre for yeast propagation systems, innovative brewery modules, top-plate systems and single key components.

“Our Danish operation represents the cutting edge of the brewery segment, and the relocation is a logical step in our ambition to strengthen the R&D efforts as well as the global business. Our target is to become the customer’s first choice, and our systems, components and services enable modern breweries to operate their key processes at maximum efficiency,” says Henrik Hjelmsmark, Segment Manager, Food Technology, Alfa Laval.

Brewing is a complex blend of craftsmanship, technology and artistry. The efficiency of these brewing processes is crucial for ensuring commercial success in a highly competitive business. At the same time, it is vital that they comply with increasingly stringent legislative requirements and are able to deal with continually rising energy costs. In addition, the brewing processes have to respond to the changing patterns of demand and consumer preferences. “As an example for further growth we will focus on beer recovery and waste reduction throughout the complete brewing process. Among the growth areas will be linking green energy and waste management, along with the development of whole new products,” says Henrik Hjelmsmark.
