USA | Craft brewer Deschutes from Bend, Oregon, has informed officials in Roanoke, Virginia, that it will not break ground for a production brewery anytime soon, while Stone from San Diego, California, has put plans for a bistro in Richmond on ice. 

USA | Constellation Brand’s past president Bill Hackett did not mince words. At the Beverage Forum in Chicago, on 1 May 2019, he called AB-InBev and MillerCoors’ spat over using corn syrup to brew beer plain and simply “that Corngate bulls**t”.

USA | Spanish brewer Mahou San Miguel has hiked its stake in Colorado’s Avery brewery by teaming up with its other US craft brewery partner, Michigan’s Founders Brewery, on the new investment.

USA | Outdoor apparel company Patagonia has filed a lawsuit against AB-InBev on 9 April 2019, claiming that the brewer’s Patagonia beer is a “copycat brand”, in that it evokes Patagonia’s  rugged, environmentally-friendly brand and logo.

USA | As AB-InBev continues to air Bud Light commercials saying that it is brewed without corn syrup, and its lawyers prepare to defend its case in court against MillerCoors, the Brewers Association is taking a backseat in all this.

USA | As Coke seeks to branch out from its core fizzy drinks category to become a “total-beverage company” by launching an energy drink under its own label, it does not seem to mind if it takes on its own partner, Monster, the world’s number two maker of energy drinks behind Red Bull.

USA | There are more than a dozen household uses for beer (excluding drinking it). Now craft brewer Dogfish Head has discovered another one. You can also use certain beers to develop film.

USA | The mills of justice grind slowly. It took a federal judge more than a year to deny Stone Brewing its request for a preliminary injunction against MillerCoors over its Keystone Light product cans.

USA | Wisconsin’s craft brewer New Glarus maintained its rank as the 16th largest craft brewer in the US last year, according to the Brewers Association’s ranking released on 12 March 2019. What makes New Glarus’ achievement stick out is that it decided to only sell its beer in its home state, pejoratively called a “flyover” country, as most Americans only view Wisconsin (population 5.7 million people) from the air and never visit it in person. What is more, its largest city, Milwaukee, has been home to Miller Brewing since the 19th century.

USA | With plenty of capacity to spare after a drop in sales, the craft brewer New Belgium has signed a contract to brew and distribute an east coast start-up lager brand, first launched in 2017.
