Smart Skin Technologies opens subsidiary in Germany

Smart Skin Technologies Inc. (SST) based in Fredericton, Canada, has expanded its international business activities. The company is one of the global leaders in pressure management solutions for the bottling and packaging industries. By opening a European subsidiary in the vicinity of Freising-Weihenstephan on April 1st 2014, it expands its product marketing, which so far has shown considerable success in breweries and beverage production sites in Canada, the USA and Central America.

The hardware and software solution provides bottling and packaging companies with precise, real-time measurement of pressure on production lines. Pressure is measured through an artificial touch-sensitive film, or “skin,” providing large-scale operators with precise, real-time measurement on the production line. This easy-to-handle and cost effective method helps reducing the pressures in packaging lines, thus extending the service life of the containers and significantly reducing losses caused by broken bottles and scuffing.

Dr Andreas Weideneder, newly appointed Executive Vice President for Smart Skin Technologies Europe (51), says this technology "is a practical solution to a problem that brewers and other bottlers have faced for many years."

Two VLB research projects using SST technology have already been carried out, another joint project in cooperation with the Chair of Food Packaging Technology at TU München-Weihenstephan is about to commence. The SST is a member company within the Weihenstephan Standard (WS).
