High marks for BrewingScience

The results are always eagerly awaited: Beside the Thomson Reuters Corporation, which determines an impact factor as a measure reflecting the yearly average number of citations to articles recently published in scientific journals, the publisher Elsevier probably operates the best known database for peer-reviewed scientific publications: Scopus. The current bibliometric indicators for 2015 have now been published by Elsevier.

In contrast to the widespread impact factor, Elsevier also considers peculiarties such as, for instance, the lower number of publications in niche fields (which subsequently leads to a lower total citation rate), using special parameters such as SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), Impact per Paper (IPP) or Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP). This also compensates for certain industry-related disadvantages.

The Scopus-listed technical journal BrewingScience published by Fachverlag Hans Carl in Nuremberg again achieved favourable results for contributions related to brewing science, with an SJR of 0.32, an IPP of 0.393 and SNIP of 0.549. Especially regarding the Source Normalized Impact per Paper, BrewingScience is thus on par with the world’s few other peer-reviewed scientific journals covering the brewing industry.
