BrewingScience receives quality label

Shortly before the end of 2017 we received great news: the scientific journal BrewingScience (the former „Monatsschrift für Brauwissenschaft“), published by Fachverlag Hans Carl, Nuremberg, has been selected for coverage in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). ESCI is a new database within Clarivate Analytics, a Thomson Reuters spin-off which has been in charge of the journal selection process since 2016. Thus, BrewingScience has reached the preliminary stage to receiving the Thomson Reuters Impact Factor, which is highly sought after in the scientific community, and has been represented in the Web of Science since the first edition of 2017, when coverage begun.

ESCI is part of the Web of Science Core Collection (a multidisciplinary bibliographic database with worldwide coverage, but U.S. American orientation). It considers, among other things, scientifically high-quality publications of at least regional importance. Journals indexed in the ESCI have to fulfill the same strict standards for scientific publications as for the Impact Factor.

The counterpart to the American-influenced Web of Science Core Collection is the database SciVerse Scopus of the publisher Elsevier. Although this database also considers publications worldwide, it has European orientation. BrewingScience has been listed there for many years.

The inclusion in ESCI represents an important milestone that makes us very happy. Nevertheless, the admission of Brewing Science to the Impact Factor remains our goal, where our journal would enjoy the excellent company of titles like “Science“ or “Nature“.

Finally, a tip: at the end of January, the current BrewingScience Yearbook 2017 will be released. It comprises all articles from the field of brewing science published last year, including the 7th hop special.
