15th Trends in Brewing | Since the last Trends in Brewing in 2018, our world has changed dramatically. In view of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine – with its far-reaching consequences – the title of the 15th Trends in Brewing International Malting and Brewing Symposium, held in Ghent in Belgium from 2 – 6 April 2023, was extremely fitting: Brewing in a challenging world – producing quality and affordable beers in a world with scarcity.

International event | The 5th Korea International Beer Expo (Kibex) was successfully held from 6 – 8 April 2023 at COEX in Samsung-dong, Seoul. The event brought together all businesses in the beverage industry value chain, from beer ingredients and brewery equipment and facilities companies to breweries, importers and wholesalers, franchises, and service, education, and media companies.

Increase in visits | The 8th Beer&Food Attraction 2023 took place in Rimini, Italy from 19–22 February 2023. It saw a 12 % increase in total professional visits and an extraordinary 30 % increase in foreign visits compared to 2020.

A PROVOCATIVE QUESTION | On November 12–14, 2022, speakers from an array of disciplines – including an archaeologist, a chef, a maltster, many beverage journalists and book authors, as well as professional brewers and historians – gathered at the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Virginia to take part in Ales Through the Ages, a unique in-person/virtual conference focused on beer’s place in history.

Conference | After the forced break in 2020 and followed by a successful online edition in 2021, the Iberoamerican VLB Symposium Brewing & Filling Technology (IBS) took place for the 12th time, this year from 21–23 November 2022 at the Uberlândia Convention Center in Uberlândia, Brazil.

Within the brewing industry, Belgium boasts a prime international reputation, so what could be more legitimate than for it to host one of the world’s most influential international beer competitions? The Brussels Beer Challenge, which this year is celebrating its 11th anniversary, has just released its results at an awards ceremony which took place on Monday 21 November at the Horeco Expo exhibition in Gand.

Industry event | The strong rebound of Asia’s premium beer industry was plain to see from the huge turn out at SEA Brew 2022, Asia’s premier Conference and Trade Fair for the craft brewing & premium beer community. Held on 27-28 October at the Berkeley Hotel Pratunam Bangkok, Thailand. After a 3-year hiatus SEA Brew 2022 witnessed a 20% growth on 2019 attendance.

Hop processing St. Johann GmbH | BarthHaas and HVG Hopfenverwertungsgenossenschaft mark the opening of the new extraction plant in St. Johann, Germany with a formal ceremony. Along with the First Minister of Bavaria, Dr. Markus Söder, invitees include the Deputy First Minister and Bavarian Secretary of Commerce, Hubert Aiwanger, and numerous guests from the worlds of politics and business, as well as the employees at the plant.
