P.E.T. Engineering launches the new 0.5 l. bottle with only 6.6 g. PET

P.E.T. Engineering does not aim to achieving easy going records. According to the belief that a PET bottle corresponds to technology, resistance and lightness, and that its design has to be functional, the Research & Development department of P.E.T. Engineering challenged the market, proposing a 0.5 l. bottle with only 6.6 g. PET, which answers exactly to the standards of bottling, palletization, transport and marketing sectors, also concerning the vending machines.

Bottle Fly, the ultralight bottle, takes the traditional shape of 0.5 l. bottles already proposed by famous mineral water brands, but gains lightness.

Weight distribution and thickness are studied to guarantee the bottle performances, allowing the normal industrialization of the container. The outline geometrical shape results from a detailed analysis of the particulars, concerning both the stiffening ribs and the container’s critical places, as shoulder and bottom. Moreover horizontal rings make the handling easier and guarantee a good handiness. The full Bottle Fly has a good resistance to the axial load and for this reason it ensures the container non-deformability also during the distribution and the transport on multilevel pallets.

The special design leads to these high mechanical performances, allowing to avoid the nitrogen introduction in the container during the filling, as normally happens for the ultralight containers available on the market.

Actually Bottle Fly is suitable for both filling techniques and can therefore withstand also the filling based on the addiction of nitrogen, allowing to form the container as required. After use, the empty container can be easily pressed so that it is possible to reduce its volume according to the prescriptions for the disposal of waste material.

Bottle Fly, which can be filled in the most modern filling lines with a standard fill level and which can be labelled thanks to the traditional machines, represents the ultralight prototype of the classical 500 ml bottles for still water available on the market.

From the planning study of the preform, produced by Husky Injection Molding Ltd. Luxembourg, to the thread, which weights less than 1 g and which can be sealed with a screw cap, the Research & Development department of P.E.T. Engineering aimed to realize a prototype, which can be easily industrialized, allowing also a considerable price reduction. For the Bottle Fly shape various border types and also many caps variants can be used, according to the chosen solution. The bottle weight can undergo some changes.

Bottle Fly represents for the other partners of PET containers production a new technological challenge, where low prices and high performances play a leading role. This bottle, produced by the Technological centre of P.E.T. Engineering, was successfully presented at BRAU Beviale, Nuremberg 2008, and will soon be subjected to industrial tests made by famous international bottling companies.
