World beer production increased by 0.6 percent
In 2013, the world beer production increased by 11 m hl to 1.973 bn hl. With an output of over 94 m hl Germany’s share is less than 5 percent, according to The Barth Report Hops 2013/2014.
China remains No. 1 in the world with over 500 m hl, followed by the U.S.A. with 224 m hl. Brazil (136 m hl) comes third ahead of Germany on fourth place with 94 m hl. After a decline of over 9 percent, Russia ranks fifth with 89 m hl. In 2013, China was not only the world’s biggest beer producer, but also the country with the highest growth in output (+16.3 m hl). Africa however remained the continent with the highest growth rate. Here, the beer output in 2013 increased by around six percent compared to the previous year. 51 percent of the world’s beer production is being brewed by the five largest brewery groups. The top 40 brewery groups together have a global beer market share of 81 percent.
