New turbidimeters for the Brewing School

The Department for Brewing and Beverage Science & Application at the VLB Berlin e.V. got a Christmas present: The company optek-Danulat GmbH, supplier of optical inline sensors, delivers turbidimeters for the optimal control of the filtration process and herewith to support science and training within the brewing courses at VLB. Already the upcoming Certified Brewmaster Courses, beginning January 2010, and the Russian Brewing Course, beginning March 2010, will benefit from these new turbidity systems.

A Process Turbidimeter type Haze Control DTF16 including PROFIBUS® communication for the future integration into a control system and a Laboratory Turbidimeter type DT9011 will be used from now on to control the filtration. Both systems measure the 11° forward scattered light for the detection of big particles, i.e. yeast cells or Kieselguhr and the 90° scattered light for the detection of small particles, i.e. colloids and for quality control and at the same time the absorption (direct light) for very high turbidity values.

The Haze Control system will be expanded with an additional sensor for i.e. controlling the turbidity in the feed line of the filter, or a color sensor to determine and control the color in the beer after filtration or before filling. “We are very happy to support the VLB Berlin and to get them prepared for the future. As a supplier of Color and Turbidity sensors we promote science and training at the VLB with the unique driftfree Turbidimeters, so that the quality of the beer is assured in the future”, explains Ben Clauberg, Market Manager at optek-Danulat GmbH, Essen, Germany. “Already now we prepare the brewers of tomorrow, we are looking forward to a great collaboration and we wish Roland Folz and his team all the best for the new VLB Brewery.”
