For some time now, in Germany and all over Europe, there has been substantial demand for equipment that can fill both bottles and cans.

It is possible to fill cans and bottles on the same machine by incorporating parts specific to each format. Peter Markl Brauereimaschinen GmbH from Reichenbach-Kienleiten, Germany, offers several different models of these hybrid machines. The “Bavaria 12/3” hybrid, featuring a pre-evacuation system for bottles and CO₂ purging for cans, is already being used successfully in Sweden, the UK, Russia and Germany. This model has a filling capacity of up to 3000 cans/bottles per hour. Other models can be modified accordingly for hybrid filling to reach a capacity of up to 15 000 cans/bottles per hour. For this reason, these fillers are very attractive for medium-sized beverage producers.

With the hybrid filling machines, as with the classic Markl bottling lines, the primary focus is on keeping the oxygen levels extremely low in the beer and mineral water or other non-alcoholic beverages. All of the filling machines are constructed entirely of stainless steel and are thus very durable. Over the past 30 years, Markl has continued to manufacture these machines without the need for superfluous high-tech electronics, yet all of their machines are state-of-the-art. Due to a unique system for managing pressurized gas in conjunction with very effective pre-evacuation and pragmatically implemented long-tube filling procedures, every machine achieves extremely low values for oxygen uptake. Furthermore, CO₂ consumption is reduced by 40 percent compared to other filling systems.

The hybrid bottle and can fillers and their corresponding capping and seaming equipment will be presented at the upcoming trade fair. Specially developed for use with this equipment, Markl will also be showing their new, hygienically designed conveyors.
