Deschutes names new assistant brewers
Deschutes Brewery has promoted Sean Garvin and Tim Alexander to serve as assistant brewmasters for the company. Both have played vital roles in the brewery’s growth over the last several years, in such areas as operations, waste management, quality control and, of course, the brewing of damn tasty beers. Both were selected for the positions based on their diversity of experience in the brewing industry.
Sean began his brewing career nearly fifteen years ago, with stints at breweries such as Pyramid, Portland Brewing Company and Boundary Bay Brewing Company before joining Deschutes in 2005. Sean holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Western Washington University and also completed the Master Brewers Program in Davis. Sean says that in his new role as assistant brewmaster, he will (and we quote): “…continue to foster the mutually beneficial relationship the brewery has developed with its minions of industrious fungal Eukaryotes. We will gain full control, tricking them into bowing to our most grandiose brewing whims and providing the masses with the damn tasty beer they demand.”
Tim joined Deschutes six years ago as an intern in the company’s brewing department, bringing with him a varied and interesting education. After completing a bachelor’s and master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of California, San Diego, Tim came to terms with his true passion: brewing. He then went on to complete the Master Brewers Program at the University of California in Davis. His educational background led him to spend time in various departments at Deschutes including waste treatment and as utilities manager – while always keeping a hand in brewing, his first love.
