IHCS announces new co-chairman and distributor

On 1 August, The International Hop Standards Committee (IHSC) announces the nomination of a new co-chairman, John Paul Maye, who will represent the American Society of Brewing Chemists (ASBC). After serving 14 years as co-chairman, Bob Foster has retired, and the committee would like to thank Bob for all his years of service. John Paul Maye will also continue as Secretary of the IHSC.

Starting August 1, 2024 there will also be a new distributor for Europe and Africa for the International Calibration Standards for HPLC Analysis. Versuchs- und Lehranstalt für Brauerei in Berlin e.V (VLB Berlin, Germany) will be the new commercial agent for European Brewery Convention (EBC). We would like to thank Labor Veritas (Zürich, Switzerland) for its 23 years as distributor for these standards.

Background

In 2001, The International Hop Standards Committee (IHSC) was founded to take care of the production, release, and maintenance of HPLC calibration standards for the quantitative determination of various hop components in hop products and beer. This Committee consists of experts representing ASBC, EBC, and BCOJ.

Currently, the following International Calibration Standards (ICS) are available:

• ICS-I4 (Dicyclohexylamine salts of iso-α-acids, DCHA-Iso);
• ICS-R3 (Dicyclohexylamine salts of rho-iso-α-acids, DCHA-Rho);
• ICS-T3 (Purified tetrahydroiso-α-acids, Tetra);
• ICS-H2 (Dicyclohexylamine salts of hexahydroiso-α-acids, DCHA-Hexa);
• ICS-Hum1 (Dicyclohexylamine salts of humulinones, DCHA-Humulinones);
• ICS-A1 (Dicyclohexylamine salts of α-acids, DCHA-Alpha);
• ICS-B1 (Dicyclohexylamine salts of β-acids, DCHA-Beta);
• ICS-X1 (Purified Xanthohumol).

In addition, the International Calibration Extract ICE-4 (hop extract with given contents of α-acids and β-acids) is also available.

How to purchase

Since 2001, stocks of these calibration standards have been divided between ASBC in the USA and Labor Veritas in Switzerland. Now, from 1 August 2024 on, VLB Berlin in Germany is taking this role from Labor Veritas.
