AB-InBev to appeal against MillerCoors’ corn syrup legal win
USA | A federal judge has issued an injunction against AB-InBev in early September 2019 in order to stop it from claiming that its beers are free from corn syrup. He also barred the brewer from using any language related to this matter on its packaging.
MillerCoors, the US arm of Molson Coors, had filed a lawsuit in March this year after AB-InBev ran advertisements during Super Bowl, that criticised MillerCoors for using corn syrup. An angry MillerCoors has reiterated that it uses corn syrup rather than high-fructose corn syrup, the latter of which has been linked to health problems such as type 2 diabetes.
AB-InBev has since said that it will appeal against the injunction because its major brand Bud Light is brewed with no corn syrup. It thinks it has the right to inform consumers of this fact at trial and on appeal.
