Sierra Nevada finally found site for a new brewery
The search is over: Sierra Nevada Brewing Company from California announced that it has chosen a site in the state of North Carolina for the future home of a 360,000 hl East Coast brewery. Lured to North Carolina by a USD 3.5 million tax break, Sierra Nevada will spend USD 100 million on a new production facility, as well as a proposed restaurant and gift shop.
There are already several microbreweries operating in the area. Once Sierra Nevada is fully operational, Henderson County hopes to turn itself into a destination for tourists who will come to see and enjoy the local beer scene.
That’s why the Henderson County Board of Commissioners offered Sierra Nevada a USD 3.5 million tax incentive plan over five years to locate there.
Construction will get under way in a few months’ time and should be completed by 2014.
An estimated 95 full-time employees and another 80 part-timers will eventually be hired.
The brewery will serve Sierra Nevada’s fast-growing East Coast market. Founded in 1980, Sierra Nevada is believed to have brewed over 800,000 hl last year.
