EBC appoints John M. Brauer successor to Marjolein van Wijngaarden
The European Brewery Convention announces the appointment of John M. BRAUER (BSc. (Hons), MSc., Dipl. Brew.) as successor to Marjolein van Wijngaarden, who will be retiring as Secretary General of EBC by the end of 2007. John will officially take over from Marjolein on 1 January 2008, and his position will become that of ‘EBC Executive Officer’.
John Brauer (1961) is a qualified scientist from Johannesburg University, with an MSc from Cape Town University as well as Associate Membership of the Institute of Brewing which he passed with distinction. He held a number of posts with South African Breweries, including Technical Training Manager for their Eastern European Breweries, based in Budapest. He moved to the United Kingdom in 2003 and worked as a technical and training consultant before joining Brewing Research International (BRi) in 2004, where he worked as project manager; this role included the marketing of BRi’s services to the global brewing industry as well as technical and training support.
The EBC offices will move to the Brewers of Europe House in Brussels, Belgium, to become an integral part of the team at the Brewers of Europe. The move will be effectuated by the end of 2007. At the same time also Hennie Schippers and Lida Walter will retire. Both have been invaluable and dedicated members of the Secretariat team, Hennie since 1991, Lida since 1984.
