Official Crop Estimate in German Hop Growing Regions
This year’s crop estimate, which was completed recently, can be found in the charts below. Expectations are for a very good harvest 2008.
The weather in the last few weeks was a mixture between short heat periods followed by significant rainfalls, especially in the southern regions. These conditions acted very favourably for the development of cones as well as good alpha acids. Furthermore, the crops appear to be very healthy.
On August 7, there was a tornado in the Hallertau which destroyed more than 200 ha. The affected hop growers will have substantial financial losses, whereas overall hop quantity will be influenced only marginally.
