AB-InBev buys beverage analytics start-up WeissBeerger
AB-InBev is thirsty for your dollar and data. The world’s number one brewer has acquired the Israeli beverage analytics start-up WeissBeerger, media reported on 26 January 2018.
No financial details were disclosed but it is believed the brewer will pay about USD 80 million for the firm.
WeissBeerger, which was founded in 2011, has managed to raise some USD 15 million to date according to Crunchbase. Investors include Google’s former CEO Eric Schmidt.
What WeissBeerger has developed is a beverage consumption app that can be used by breweries and points-of-sale, such as pubs and bars, to access consumer behaviour data in real-time. The Weissbeerger app tracks consumption with the help of smart-taps that are connected to the beer keg. Via the internet it aggregates data and analyses them to provide recommendations on beer wastage reduction and marketing.
According to WeissBeerger’s website, bars that have used the company’s tools have increased revenue from each beer tap by 32 percent and reduced beer wastage by 50 percent, among other things, by promoting more efficient sales.
Headquartered in Tel Aviv, WeissBeerger currently operates throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas, with offices in the UK and the US.
