Plenty of safety Innocap, the innovative capping concept for PET beer bottles

PET and beer - an issue to be decided by the consumer. And a subject that is not to be crossed off the list on the part of breweries by simply deciding on a particular material. In a decision in favor of bottling beer in PET a variety of aspects are involved. This begins with the question of returnables or non-returnables, continues with the choice of material and leads to one component that has been accorded too little attention in spite of its primary significance: a suitable closure.

The better the bottle permeation values, all the more reason to adapt the closure to these values. In answer to this challenge, KHS of Dortmund, together with the well-known closure specialists Creative Closure Technology GmbH, has developed an optimal concept for plastic beer bottles.

Avoiding oxygen intake

Plastic screw-on caps are the standard closures for PET bottles today. The primary problem of normal screw-caps is the intake of additional quantities of air in the bottle during the capping process. The goal is to prevent this intake. The KHS solution: A blocker cap formed by the main cap and sealing shield comprising the two-piece closure. Although the main cap is made of normal HDPE, completely different materials may be selected for the sealing shield. Whether Oxylon, Polyliner, or Scavenger, materials can be chosen according to individual requirements.

Two great advantages of this two-piece Innocap closure: The blocker cap provides an initial safeguard against an intake of oxygen. The blocker cap, designed as a sealing shield, also reduces beer losses by not allowing any beer or beverage whatsoever to escape from the inside bottle neck area.
