Prof. Weiland succeeds Prof. Guido Aerts
KU Leuven | The long-standing vacancy as successor to Prof. Guido Aerts at the Ghent Technology Campus of KU Leuven, Belgium, has now been filled. After the tragic passing away of the initially appointed successor Prof. Koen Goiris, Florian Weiland was appointed on 1 October 2019.
Prof. Weiland (born in 1979) studied brewing at Technische Universität München in Weihenstephan. After graduation and receiving his PhD he spent the first years of his career at the University of Adelaide, Australia and went then to the MRC PPU in Dundee, Scotland, where he worked as research associate in the field of proteome analysis. His field of expertise is analytical biochemistry for malting and brewing.
In Ghent, Prof. Weiland aims to advance not only teaching but also research in the field of intra- and intercellular signal transduction of brewer’s yeast during fermentation.
