VLB establishes new Department for Brewing and Beverage Science & Application
The new VLB “Department for Brewing and Beverage Science & Application” under the management of Dipl.-Ing. Roland Folz has been in operation since January 2009. The aim is to extend the competence in brewing technology in Berlin in addition to the Chair of Brewing Science at Technische Universität Berlin.
In the context of its international expansion, VLB has now established the basis for an extension of its competence in brewing technology. The new “Department for Brewing and Beverage Science & Application“ is focused on questions and solutions in the field of brewing and beverage technology. The team led by department head Roland Folz (33) consists of young engineers who combine industrial practice with an in-depth theoretical background. Currently in planning is a new pilot brewery. The department is also closely linked with the field of “Training & Education” of VLB. The English name should also emphasise the international orientation of the new department.
In addition, the Chair of Brewing Science of Technische Universität Berlin under the direction of Prof. Dr. Frank-Jürgen Methner is also continually extending its work. Here one special focus is on the further development and conduction of the course of study of Bachelor of Science / Master of Science for Brewing and Beverage Technology at TU Berlin. Moreover, the Chair will also strengthen its research activities in the field of brewing and malting technology. This will be in close cooperation with the other chairs of the TU Institute for Biotechnology which is part of the Faculty for Process Science of TU Berlin.
Since the beer industry is a rapidly growing sector in many parts of the world, there is also an increasing demand for in-depth training and consultancy. VLB, which has continuously extended its international activities during recent years, also benefits from this development. As a result the management of VLB Berlin is sure that with the establishment of this new department an important milestone for the further successful expansion of the VLB has been set.
