Two new members in the group of external BrewingScience reviewers

Specialist publisher Hans Carl, Nuremberg, Germany, is pleased to announce two new peer reviewers for BrewingScience – Monatsschrift für Brauwissenschaft, Dr. Stefan Hanke, head of the pilot plant of the Bitburg Brewing Group, Bitburg, Germany, and Dr. Martin Zarnkow, Lehrstuhl für Brau-und Getränketechnologie (Chair of Brewing and Beverage Technology) at the TU München-Weihenstephan, Germany.

Stefan Hanke studied brewing science and beverage technology at TU München in Weihenstephan from November 1999 to July 2004, graduating as an engineer with a Dipl.-Ing. degree. In 2010 he received a Ph.D. degree for his research on the influence of hopping technology on harmony of beer. Since 2010 he is head of the pilot plant of the Bitburg Brewing Group, Bitburg, Germany and responsible for R&D issues of affiliated breweries.

After his traineeship as brewer and maltster at a small brewery in Frankonia from 1989-1991, Martin Zarnkow graduated as Diplom-Ingenieur (FH) in brewing technology. In 1996 he joined the TU München-Weihenstephan, where he started working as head of the research group for beer and beverage technologies at the Chair of Brewing and Beverage Technology in 1997. In 2010 he finished his external Ph.D. research at the University College of Cork, Ireland on the subject: “Proso Millet (Panicum miliaceum L.), a Sustainable Raw Material for the Malting and Brewing Process”.

As of January 2013, both are members of our external reviewer committee. For the review process Stefan focuses on raw materials (esp. hops) and brewing technology. Martin will support our panel with his expertise in brewing technology and sensorical aspects.
