Dr. Michael Féchir is moving to KU Leuven
Dr. Michael Féchir has taken up a new role as Assistant Professor in Bioprocess Technology for the Beverage Industry at KU Leuven, Campus Gent in Flanders, Belgium. In this position, he contributes to teaching and research at the interface of food science, brewing technology, and sustainable process development.
At KU Leuven, Dr. Féchir will be teaching courses and lab exercises in Food Processing, Food Quality, Malting and Brewing, as well as Food Chemistry. His internationally oriented research focuses on brewing and beverage raw materials, their interactions during processing, and their technological functionality. A particular emphasis of his work lies in the impact of origin and growing environment on the processability of raw materials and enhancing sustainability across the entire supply chain—from ingredient selection to product development, quality, and shelf-life.
Prior to joining KU Leuven, Dr. Féchir served as Tandem Professor for Beverage Technology at Trier University of Applied Sciences, Department of Food Technology, in collaboration with the Bitburger Brewery Group. In this role, he combined academic teaching with industry-oriented research and innovation in brewing science.
His international academic experience includes a visiting research stay at Oregon State University, Department of Food Science and Technology, Laboratory of Fermentation Science. Besides his academic career, Dr. Féchir, in addition, has an industrial background in research and development of plant-based dairy alternatives.
Dr. Féchir earned his PhD in Food Chemistry from the Technical University of Munich. He previously studied Food Technology and Food Economy at Trier University of Applied Sciences, building the interdisciplinary foundation that now underpins his research and teaching.
