Call for donations for the Ludwig Narziß Award for Brewing Science

Anniversary | It would have been Prof. Ludwig Narziß´ 100th birthday on 30 September 2025: Unfortunately, he did not quite make it. The “beer pope” passed away on 29 November 2022, at the age of 97. The outpouring of sympathy both nationally and internationally, from the US to Japan, but of course especially in German-speaking countries, was enormous. And even today, he is still very often talked about, not least because of the award named after him.

The Ludwig Narziß Award for Brewing Science was established in 2015 by publisher Fachverlag Hans Carl and the Weihenstephaner Jubiläumsstiftung 1905 (Weihenstephan Anniversary Foundation 1905) within the Association of Former Weihenstephaners of the Brewing Department (Verband ehemaliger Weihenstephaner der Brauerabteilung e.V.), in recognition of publications in the scientific journal BrewingScience that represent a symbiosis of scientific work and practical relevance (in the broadest sense, i.e., including topics such as malting, hop processing, packaging, etc.) – something that had always been a particular concern of Prof. Narziß.

The annual award, which is financed by donations, is endowed with EUR 2,500. Many well-known brewing scientists have already had the pleasure of receiving the award, which in the early years was presented by Prof. Narziß in person. In order to continue awarding the prize in the spirit of its namesake for as long as possible, donations are still welcome.
