The “Great Convergence” in US alcohol distribution
USA | As the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) wrapped up its annual conference (11–14 October) in Orlando, Florida, many in the industry continue to discuss the fallout from the spectacular collapse of the wine and spirits distributor RNDC this summer and the wave of deals it triggered among wholesalers. It has already led to the merging of wine and spirits wholesalers with traditional beer wholesalers. The trend was referred to as the “The Great Convergence” at the NBWA conference. It has stimulated a renewed focus on state laws that govern licensing for the two types of business and how producers can change distributors.
