Rock-a-bye-baby
The Czech beer market is going like a song, writes Lyle Frink from Prague. More specifically, like a children’s lullaby - "Rock-a-bye baby in the treetop, when the wind blows, the cradle will rock ..." According to the Czech Breweries and Malt Association the view from the top is quite positive. "There is no decline, production even might be a bit better than the previous year," said executive director Jaroslav Cepicka.
After all, doomsayers have been predicting that consumption would fall below the world record 160 litres per capita level sooner or later. But according to preliminary calculations from Jan Vesely, the Association’s Chairman, Czech beer production for 2003 was 18.5 million hl, in increase of about 2 percent year-on-year. The taxman has been kind to Czech brewers.
