Sapporo’s collab beer will go on sale despite spelling error on cans

Japan | Jointly developed by Sapporo and Family Mart, one of Japan’s largest chains of convenience stores, the beer called Kaitakushi Bakushu Shitate, or “Kaitakushi Beer Tailored” and named after the country’s first brewery, was to hit shelves in January 2021.

However, the release of the limited-edition beer was initially cancelled due to the misspelling of the word “Lager” on the label. Instead of “Lager” the cans had “Lagar” printed on them.

Sapporo Breweries issued an apology, saying that a last-minute inspection found the incorrect spelling on both the 350 ml and 500 ml cans.

Although the misspelling caused a bit of buzz on digital media, most consumers shrugged the whole thing off. In the end, Sapporo decided to go ahead with the release regardless. It will be sold from 2 February at Family Mart for JPY 219 (USD 2.11) for the smaller can and JPY 286 (USD 2.76) for the larger can.
