Cocktail subscription service launched
Not long, and Australians will be the first to have mutated into setteesauruses. Nowadays you can basically shop for everything online without having to get up from your sofa or settee.
Having enjoyed the delights of wine clubs for years, it was only a matter of time before someone would treat their countryfolk to a subscription service for cocktails.
In October 2018, Cocktail Porter was launched, which claims to be Australia's first premium online cocktail subscription service to deliver "bartender-designed" cocktail kits directly to customers' front doors.
The service was founded by Cameron Northway, founder and Managing Director of drinks consultancy Sweet&Chilli.
After identifying that "staying in is the new going out", which has meant a surge in off-premise sales of alcohol and an uptake in food delivery services, Mr Northway set out to create a modern, on-demand service for cocktails.
With a different cocktail delivered each month, each kit contains the latest trends in cocktails from bars around Australia and the world, along with easy-to-follow recipes, pre-measured premium spirits, tailored mixers and quality ingredients.
The kits will be delivered on the 14th of each month (if purchased via a subscription) or within three to five working days if ordered individually. Each kit will make between 14 to 18 cocktails.
These kits do not come cheap. Cocktail Porter's monthly members boxes are priced at AUD 135 (USD 96) per month. But given Australia's steep prices for alcohol, they may in fact represent a bargain. If you divide each kit by, say, 14 cocktails, subscribers are set to spend less than AUD 10 (USD 7) per drink. In a bar, expect to pay between AUD 15 and AUD 20 per cocktail.
