Australian beers take out top honours
On 19 March, organisers of the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA), which was established 16 years ago to reward excellence in the field of brewing
and to assist in the promotion of the brewing industry, announced this year’s winners:

- 2009 Champion Lager – Imperial, Cerveceria Hondurena SA de CV, Honduras
- 2009 Champion Ale – Feral Hop Hog, Feral Brewing Company, Western Australia
- 2009 Champion Porter – Dirty Angel, The Flying Horse Bar & Brewery, Victoria
- 2009 Champion Stout – Blackwood Stout, Blackwood Valley Brewing Company, Western Australia
- 2009 Champion Reduced & Low Alcohol Beer – Sunshine Coast Summer Ale, The Sunshine Coast Brewery, Queensland
- 2009 Champion Wheat Beer – Weihenstephan Dunkel, Weihenstephan Brewery, Germany
- 2009 Champion Belgian & French Ale – Brother David’s Double Abbey Style Ale, Anderson Valley Brewing Co, United States of America
- 2009 Champion Scotch & Barley Wines – Razorback, Feral Brewing Company, Western Australia
- 2009 Champion Hybrid Beer – Feral White, Feral Brewing Company, Western Australia
- 2009 Champion Packaging Award – Barons Black Wattle Original Ale, Barons Brewery, New South Wales
- 2009 Premier’s Trophy – Rapunzel, Mountain Goat Beer Pty Ltd, Victoria
- 2009 Gary Sheppard Memorial Trophy – McAuslan Brewing, Quebec
- 2009 Champion Exhibitor Trophy – Feral Brewing Company, Western Australia
For the third consecutive year, a Western Australian brewery stole the show, with the Feral Brewing Company winning five trophies, including the 2009 Champion Exhibitor and Champion Small Brewery.
