They call it “Chuck’s ten-year-itch”
By 1998, he had rejoined the corporate fold as chief brewer for Lion Nathan, which had acquired the Hahn Premium brand (as well as Hahn Brewing) and supported the new Malt Shovel venture at Camperdown, Sydney, in the original Hahn Brewery. Chuck later passed the role of chief brewer to Bill Taylor in order to focus on the Malt Shovel venture.
Coincidentally in April this year, news of another venture by Chuck emerged… he has established a small brewery in the Banjo Paterson Inn, Jindabyne New South Wales, which will brew the Kosciuszko Pale Ale.
Kosciuszko Pale Ale may be a real tongue twister of a brand name but it resonates with the area. It is named after Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 m) in Snowy Mountains in south-east New South Wales, which also happens to be Australia’s highest mountain. It was named after Polish patriot Tadeus Kosciuszko by explorer/scientist Paul de Strzelecki – another Pole – in 1840.
The brewing equipment as well as the Kosciuszko Brewing Co and Kosciuszko Pale Ale copyrights belong to Lion Nathan but the Banjo Paterson Inn is owned by publicans Gary Narvo, Peter Harris and Gavin Patton.
