Brisbane’s XXXX brewery under water
On 11 January 2011, Lion Nathan announced its XXXX brewery will donate AUD 180,000 (EUR 131,000) worth of its beer products to hotels and clubs in flood-affected areas and staff would work with publicans to assess damage to beer systems.
Another AUD 100,000 would be donated to the Queensland Premier’s flood relief appeal and the brewery was working with Queensland Cricket to do fundraising.
As concerns its employees, Lion Nathan said its XXXX brewery workers would be on full pay while they were off work because of the floods.
On 12 January 2011, the Foster’s Group announced that it would commit AUD 500,000 (EUR 365,000) in cash and kind to be donated via a donation to the flood relief fund. Moreover it would provide direct assistance to employees and their families who have been affected by the floods. Whatever employees donated to the relief fund would be matched by the company.
Brisbane residents have been told to brace themselves for a long and arduous recovery that could take months, or even years, to complete.
In total, more than 26,000 homes and 5,000 businesses in 67 suburbs have been affected, while more than 150 roads were closed. By 17 January 2011, the death toll in Queensland’s flood crisis had risen to 18 people.
