Alfa Laval and Sartorius Stedim Biotech extend their partnership

At the drinktec trade show in Munich, Germany, Alfa Laval and Sartorius Stedim Biotech announced an extension of their cooperation regarding the distribution of membrane filters for cold sterilization of beer.

Following 10 years of cooperation, Alfa Laval, a leading global provider of process solutions for the beer, beverage and food industries, and Sartorius Stedim Biotech (SSB), a leading supplier for the pharma and food industries, have decided to extend their successful partnership for five more years. According to the extended agreement that will go into effect January 2014, Alfa Laval will continue to be a preferred SSB distribution partner that provides trap and sterile filtration solutions worldwide to the brewing Industry.

SSB membrane filters are key elements in Alfa Laval’s modular beer sterile filtration systems. These proven, flexible membrane filtration solutions are an efficient alternative to pasteurization for removal of undesirable microorganisms in beer prior to filling into cans, bottles and kegs. Sterile filtration of beer ensures the necessary shelf life and brings out the fresh, natural character of beer without detrimental thermal effects. Sartorius polyethersulfone membranes have the lowest protein adsorption in the brewing industry. As a result, they do not affect the taste or unique characteristics of beer, while guaranteeing high total filtration throughputs.

Numerous breweries worldwide already rely on Alfa Laval beer filtration systems with Sartorius Stedim Biotech membrane filters for sterile filtration, polishing and microfiltration. This extended partnership will guarantee the long-term supply of high-quality cartridges for sterile beer filtration plants worldwide based on Alfa Laval’s global organization and central filter cartridge warehouse in Copenhagen, Denmark.
