EBS 2024: Registration deadline approaching

Munich | In line with the motto "Is your Beer a Star? Prove it!", the European Beer Star is once again inviting breweries to take part this year. Registration for this year's edition of the renowned beer competition closes on 24 July 2024.

“We are particularly pleased to receive entries from Greenland and the Faroe Islands for the first time. This shows that the European Beer Star is one of the most international beer competitions,” says a delighted Stefan Stang, Managing Director of the Verband Private Brauereien Bayern e.V. In fact, on average around two thirds of the entries do not come from Germany. Despite the international character of the competition, the domestic brewing industry still accounts for the majority of competitors. The participating breweries come from all over the world, and the organizers are expecting entries from almost 50 countries this year. “We are proud that the European Beer Star is not only known in every corner of the brewing world, but also has a high status among breweries,” says Stang.

Expert tasting in Nuremberg

As last year, the expert tasting will once again take place at the Exhibition Center Nuremberg. The jury of international beer experts will meet there from 18–20 September to taste and evaluate the submitted beer samples purely on the basis of sensory criteria. This is a blind tasting, which means that the beer samples are anonymous and completely unknown to the judges. In the 75 categories of the competition, only the best three beers per category are awarded gold, silver and bronze medals in the end. “In addition to the evaluation, each beer submitted is described by our expert jury in the form of a flavor profile. The participating breweries can then use this profile for their quality assurance and benchmarking,” says Kilian Kittl, Project Manager of the European Beer Star.

Future Award enters third round

This year, the European Beer Star Future Award takes place for the third time, after two successful editions, and EBS participants can also take part in the Future Award free of charge. Special focus lies on the topic of “Technical innovations to reduce primary energy consumption”. The technical innovations implemented in the companies will not only be evaluated as part of the Future Award. Rather, the aim is to encourage the brewing industry in general to actively develop solutions that are not only ecologically sustainable but also economically advantageous.

Awards ceremony at BrauBeviale

On 27 November, during BrauBeviale in Nuremberg, the successful breweries will finally receive their awards at a festive ceremony. This will be followed by the exclusive Night of the Winners, where numerous winning beers of the European Beer Star 2024 can be sampled in a nice atmosphere.
