IBD 2018 Asia Pacific Convention – Wellington

“Explore the Past to Discover Our Future” is the theme for the 35th Convention of the IBD Asia Pacific section which will take place in the “coolest little capital in the world”, Wellington, New Zealand, on 19th to 23rd March 2018.

For four days the TSB Bank Area is going to become a busy hub of activity for delegates, speakers and sponsors representing companies and institutions from the Asia Pacific region and beyond with a fifth day seeing a continuation of the programme with the technical tours that always prove so popular.

The theme has its base in the concept of the future of beer being the understanding of the foundations of beer education from our brewing past. The challenges faced by many new, and not so new to brewing, can often be solved by seeking knowledge and experience from those that have gone before them. The IBD delivers this experience and knowledge to all brewers and distillers in an accessible way – to anyone, anywhere and at all levels within the crafts of brewing and distilling.

The IBD 2018 Wellington convention builds on previous platforms and delivers to the next level by integrating craft brewing, large scale brewing and distilling needs throughout the entire convention programme. Craft brewers will exchange their flavour and process knowledge alongside those brewers who can assist and exchange ideas over brewery challenges as businesses grow and expand beyond what was thought possible ten years ago. And for those wanting insight into the distilling of those traditional amber nectars, the forum is there to share the knowledge discovered over the history of this honourable profession. The 2016 convention in Sydney literally raised the bar for IBD conventions with a number of innovations from concurrent presentations and a new social media platform to innovation workshops and pop-up bars. We anticipate that the Wellington convention will go further in setting a new standard for brewing and distilling knowledge exchange across a platform that is both enjoyable and accessible.

So what’s on offer? In short, the programme will present every opportunity to learn with twelve craft brewing sessions, 47 technical sessions, three keynotes, eight innovation workshops and numerous posters; add in the Horace Brown Award lecture from Professor Barry Axel, ample time to view the technical exhibition and network with colleagues for a must attend event. On top of the technical sessions there will also be plenty of opportunity to relax and to catch up with old friends, meet key raw material and process equipment suppliers and to make new friends across a number of venues during the week. The experiences will be topped by concluding the convention in style as the IBD does something truly unique – hosting the closing dinner in the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

All the details of the extensive technical programme and speakers can be found on the event website https://etm.eventsair.com/QuickEventWebsitePortal/ibd2018/delegate where you can also register. We look forward to seeing you there!
