Flood in June 2013

Very heavy rainfall on June 2nd and 3rd caused flooding in many Bavarian hop gardens. First

assessments indicate that an area of about 150 to 200 hectares has been affected.

The majority of the flooded hop gardens are located in the valleys along the "Ilm" and "Abens" rivers.

On Monday, June 3rd, flood water levels ranged from 10 to 50 cm.

At the moment we cannot estimate if there will be any damage to the hops. This depends mainly on how long it takes for the flood water to drain away.

A further point to be considered is how soon farmers can access their land with machinery for fertilisation and spraying, wherever necessary ...
