Annual Variations of initial Hop Storage Index
One of the possibilities to assess the freshness of hops and hop pellets is the Hop Storage Index (HSI), which
can be analysed according to the methods EBC 7.13 or ASBC Hops-12. Our Newsletters in January 2012
and April 2014 already gave information about factors influencing this value. This year’s crop again shows
huge differences between various varieties, diagrammed in figures 1 and 2 for some popular German bitter
and aroma varieties.
