Milwaukee Miller brewery shooting: Six workers, including shooter, dead
USA | In the afternoon of 26 February 2020, a gunman killed five people and then himself during a rampage on the Milwaukee site of brewer Molson Coors. The shooter was identified as working for the company. There were no reports of injuries.
Media say that the police were called to the Miller complex, which houses the brewery and corporate headquarters, at 2 pm. Ten minutes later, employees were notified by email that a shooter was in or near the second-floor stairwell of the sprawling factory’s Building 4.
Later, police found the suspect dead from a gunshot wound. Five employees were also found dead in the same building.
Per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, at 4:45 pm, police reported there was no longer a threat and by 5:30 pm, employees were allowed to leave the site.
Molson Coors’ CEO Gavin Hattersley, who was away in Houston, announced that the Milwaukee office will be closed for the rest of the week and the brewery will remain shut down for “the time being to ensure our people have time to cope with today's events.”
By 9:30 pm, Mr Hattersley was in Milwaukee, talking to some employees and thanking them for their bravery. “This is an unthinkable tragedy for us,” Mr Hattersley was quoted as saying in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Officials refrained from addressing the motive for the shooting.
