BrewDog sets its eyes on brewery in California

USA | Is there no limit to BrewDog’s expansion across the globe? The Scottish craft brewer is now looking to build or buy a brewery in California, as its business continues to grow across the United States.

Having opened a brewery and hotel in Columbus, Ohio, in 2017, the craft brewer is weighing options to better serve the West Coast.

Special projects manager Keith Bennet told the website brewbound.com: “There’s such an amazing craft beer scene on the West Coast that we would love to be locally a part of that.” Mr Bennet added that the company has been looking from Northern California to San Diego for either a new or existing facility.

Sharing its plans with the media, BrewDog is clearly hoping that some established craft brewers willing to sell will come forward.

Per brewbound.com, BrewDog’s output in Columbus increased 46 percent in 2019 to 53,000 barrels (62,000 hl) beer.

Most likely, BrewDog will use proceeds from a new crowdfunding round to expand operations to the west.

Sleep in a Kennel

Some funds will be used to push BrewDog’s hospitality business towards rentable apartments (2 to 6) above its bars, called Kennels. The first Kennels were opened in Aberdeen in 2019. Prices for the rooms start at GBP 75 (USD 98) per night. Columbus will have the next lot of Kennels, followed by Paris, Manchester, Berlin and London in due course.
