BrewDog launches first crowdfunding scheme in US
Thinking that streets must be paved with gold and they only needed to collect it, Scottish brewer BrewDog has launched a USD 50 million (EUR 45 million) crowdfunding round in August 2016, this time in the US, to help fund its new brewery in Ohio. It hopes to raise the money in six months.
Its Equity for Punks USA investment scheme is the fifth fundraising venture by the brewery, and its first in the US. BrewDog has already collected more than GBP 26 million (EUR 30 million/USD 34 million) since launching its first Equity for Punks crowdfunding round in 2009. Its last UK round, which closed in April 2016, raised GBP 19 million (USD 25 million) but fell short of its GBP 25 million target.
BrewDog is currently constructing a new brewery in Columbus, Ohio, which is scheduled to open later this year. It will feature a restaurant, taproom, retail space, a visitor centre and a beer garden.
BrewDog’s British business now employs more than 600 people globally and exports to 55 countries. It also operates more than 40 bars in the UK and overseas, it was reported.
