Quarantine beer: BrewDog opens online bar

United Kingdom | New times breed new ideas. Given that pubs and bars the world over have been forced to shut, Scottish brewer BrewDog has responded by moving its bar business to the internet.

After switching its 60 or so UK bars (out of over 100 globally) to takeaway service via its Hop Drop app, BrewDog is going even further. On 27 March 2020 it opened its BrewDog Online Bar to anyone in the world (over 18).

This way, its patrons can still get together, be social and feel safe.

The BrewDog Online Bar sessions are set up for every single BrewDog bar in the UK, the US, Australia and Germany, to give locals and regulars a chance to reconnect and share a beer, provided they got a BrewDog takeaway beer or bought some from the brewer’s online shop.

To older folks, the whole concept of sharing a beer with friends over the internet may sound a bit sad, if not downright dystopian (remember the 2009 Bruce Willis movie Surrogates?), but a generation that is tied to its smartphones will probably take to these virtual encounters in droves.

Anyway, what else can they do?
