A salute to the founders
At 125 years young, the VLB Berlin is alive and well. The anniversary celebration took place on the 27th of June, 2008, although the “birthday party” could be held on the first of January. The VLB called and everyone came: some 800 guests were in attendance – friends, sponsors, members and supporters turned out to collectively raise their glasses to the past as well as the future. VLB Director Eberhard Weinmann, overcome by the sight of the tent filled with revelers, exclaimed: “We have our own loyal fan base.” At that time, there was still hope that Germany’s national soccer team would win the European Championship (meanwhile the team has had to swallow a soberingly bitter defeat).
