Franconia or the heart of European brewing

Beer travellers have always known that Franconia is the place with the highest number of breweries in Europe.

Hoppenstedt’s new brewery directory lists 209 breweries in Franconia. Germany, with 875 breweries, tops the European league followed by the Czech Republic with 70 breweries.

Although the correlation between breweries and population says very little about the availability of beer, it says a lot about beer traditions and culture.
