Let’s do something new!
The Italian company Fonti di Vinadio has presented the first degradable bottle of mineral water, Sant’Anna Bio Bottle.
After the excellent research results the world’s first entirely degradable bottle of mineral water is on the shelves. This bottle is made of a new material called "Ingeo", the revolutionary natural plastic made of fermented plants’ sugar rather than petroleum.
As Alberto Bertone, CEO and President of Fonti di Vinadio, explains: "The use of renewable resources instead of petroleum in the production of this natural plastic reduces the dependence from fossil fuels and, thanks to more sustainable manufacturing processes, contributes to the fall of carbon dioxide emissions, main cause of the greenhouse effect. Substituting petroleum with a renewable resource from plant origin saves 67% fossil fuels in comparison to traditional plastics. If we consider 50 million bio-bottles weighting 27 grams each, compared to the same quantity bottles produced with common PET, we save 13,600 oil barrels, i.e. the same quantity of energy that is needed to provide electricity for 40,000 people for an entire month! In Vinadio we are able to produce 50 million bottles in a week work. And nowadays in Italy we have to dispose of over 5 billion bottles. The main objective of the enterprise is to introduce into the market a much higher number of bottles, therefore the several options of disposal are in course of verification: from recycling to composting. In fact, once placed in a suitable environment for disposal, the bottle produced with this bio-plastic will completely decompose in about 80 days.”
