Rexam strengthens leading position in beverage cans in Egypt with investment in new line

Rexam, the global consumer packaging company and the world’s leading beverage can maker, announces that it is investing £19.5m to double the capacity of its can making facility in Egypt by adding a new line.

The new line will be implemented in two phases, the first of which is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2008. The expansion is expected to be fully completed in early 2009 and will increase capacity by approximately 700 million cans per year. The line will initially produce 33cl steel cans but will have the capability of making other sizes as well.

Commenting on the new line, Bill Barker, global Director of Rexam Beverage Cans, said: “This investment proves Rexam’s commitment to the Egyptian market following our acquisition of Ecanco in January last year. The market in Egypt and the surrounding region is expanding rapidly. The new line will help ensure that we continue to deliver the best value to our customers now and in the future.”
