Radeberger abandons plans to relocate its Frankfurt brewery

Dr Christmann insisted that his board had already given the green light to the investment and that the reversal of plans was owed to the economic crisis which is making consumers drink even less beer than anticipated.

Funny he should say that. Wasn’t it his predecessor, Ulrich Kallmeyer, who for years had acted like the brewing industry’s Cassandra, predicting massive consumption declines and industry shakeouts?

So what does Radeberger know now that it did not know two years ago when under Mr Kallmeyer’s stewardship the Frankfurt relocation plans were conceived?

Could it be that Radeberger had secretly hoped to do a real estate deal? Make good money on selling the Frankfurt site and build somewhere else for less?

Anyway, it’s now back to square one for Radeberger in Frankfurt.

Radeberger Group has 15 brewing locations all over Germany. It brews brands like Radeberger, Jever, Sion Kölsch, Schlösser Alt, Rostocker Pilsner and Römer Pils.

In Frankfurt, Radeberger employs about 500 people.
